چکیده

Ionic channels play an important role in regulating the cell’s membrane potential and internal charge. This paper will focus on a continuum model of the KcsA potassium channel. We will derive the Poisson-Nernst-Planck (PNP) equations in general and then provide computational solutions for a 1D KcsA channel using experimentally determined parameters. The solution to the PNP equations consists of the time-dependent charge densities of each ion, coupled with the electric potential. The results will be used to solve for the time-dependent current in the channel in response to different time-dependent voltage signals, which can be compared with experimental data. 36 Copyright © SIAM Unauthorized reproduction of this article is prohibited

Energy study at different solvents for potassium Channel Protein by Monte Carlo, Molecular and Langevin Dynamics Simulations

Potassium Channels allow potassium flux and are essential for the generation of electric current acrossexcitable membranes. Potassium Channels are also the targets of various intracellular controlmechanisms; such that the suboptimal regulation of channel function might be related to pathologicalconditions. Realistic studies of ion current in biologic channels present a major challenge for compu...

Electrodiffusion Model Simulation of Ionic Channels: 1D Simulations

The drift-diffusion (Poisson-Nernst-Planck) model is applied to ionic channels in biological membranes plus surrounding solution baths. Simulations of the K channel in KCl solutions using the TRBDF2 method are presented which show significant boundary layers at the ends of the channel. The computed current-voltage curve for the K channel shows excellent agreement with experimental measurements.

Molecular dynamics estimates of ion diffusion in model hydrophobic and KcsA potassium channels.

Molecular dynamics simulations are carried out to obtain estimates of diffusion coefficients of biologically important Na+, K+, Ca2+ and Cl- ions in hydrophobic cylindrical channels with varying radii and large reservoirs. Calculations for the cylindrical channels are compared to those for the KcsA potassium channel, for which the protein structure has recently been determined from X-ray diffra...

On the Impact of Transposition Errors in Diffusion-Based Channels

Transposition errors fundamentally undermine reliability and capacity in molecular communication, when individual particles are used for information encoding. Recently, several channel coding techniques have been proposed for mitigating the transposition effect. The presented techniques show promising results for diffusion-based channels with drift. However, so far no performance evaluation has...

Membranes with the Same Ion Channel Populations but Different Excitabilities

Electrical signaling allows communication within and between different tissues and is necessary for the survival of multicellular organisms. The ionic transport that underlies transmembrane currents in cells is mediated by transporters and channels. Fast ionic transport through channels is typically modeled with a conductance-based formulation that describes current in terms of electrical drift...
